Chapter 12: Where Studios Have Been — and Where They May Be Headed
Studios have changed many times over the decades.
From large commercial rooms to project studios. From tape to digital. From scarcity to abundance. Each shift brought new tools, and new questions.
What has not changed is the core responsibility: capturing ideas in a way that serves the music.
The future will bring more automation, more assistance, more abstraction. The challenge will no longer be access. It will be intention.
Technology will continue to evolve. Judgment, taste, and perspective will remain essential. Tools change, but the principles of good engineering endure.
The work does not end with mastery of equipment. It continues with mastery of discernment, restraint, and understanding the music itself.
